Jesus is the Fulfillment of the Law

Sermon Recap
Preaching Text: Matthew 5:13-20
Since Jesus came to fulfill the law, I asked us the question:
“What should we do with the law of God?”
Some people try to earn God’s favor with it. Others discard it and just claim “grace, grace.” Both perspectives are wrong. The law is good and meant to be obeyed by believers. As the psalmist says, “In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth” (Ps. 119:88, emphasis added).
Main Point:
Jesus fulfilled the law so that we could obey it.
God’s grace to us changes our hearts by making them alive, giving them a desire to do what God commands, and filling them with the Holy Spirit. That all begins with repenting of our sin and inviting Jesus to be our Lord.
The application point is this:
Holiness doesn’t just happen. It’s a habit.
This week, God will give each one of us opportunities to obey him and learn the habit of holiness. Be on the lookout and be bold to obey.
