Book of Common Prayer 2019 Teachings
New Book of Common Prayer Teachings
The BCP is short for the Book of Common Prayer. Note that the book itself is not common, but rather the prayer. Anglican worship has been defined by common prayer and the BCP its defining characteristic. The beliefs of the Anglican church are found within the language of our worship. We are able to believe and pray in common because of this ancient liturgy.
Earlier this year, the Anglican Church in North America completed a lengthy work with its 2019 BCP. Copies are now in the pews of our sanctuary and can be purchased online. The 7:45 AM service has already begun using the new prayer book. The other two services will make the shift on December 1st coinciding with Advent I.
To help us get acquainted with the new BCP, we had a preaching series on worship and a 3-week Sunday school class. For each class, teachings on liturgy in general were discussed and also the specific changes that were made to the BCP.
If you would like to purchase the new BCP, visit here. We recommend the personal edition, with the faux leather cover. It’s font is larger than the hardback ones in the pew, plus it has ribbon markers to help locate various pages. You can also download the complete book here.
