God Wants Your Whole Heart

Topic: Lent 2026 Passage: 1 Corinthians 10:1–13
We often long for more than what God has provided. We crave something from the world that only God can give. We worship creation rather than the Creator.
In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul narrates a history lesson from Israel’s story. God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt. They experienced God’s presence, protection and provision. God gave them miracle after miracle and blessing after blessing. He desired their whole hearts and worship. And yet they were not satisfied and turned to lesser things.
Paul wants the church to learn from Israel’s mistakes. He calls the church to turn away from idolatry and sexual sin. What you do with your body influences your heart. And God wants your whole heart.
Paul warns those in the church who are going through the motions and living a double life, “Let anyone who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall (10:12).” You cannot presume on God's grace and then live for yourself. God calls us to a lifestyle of repentance. A daily habit of turning from ourselves to God.
Paul also encourages those who are despairing over their sins to take heart. God will not leave you to fend for yourself. He will not weigh you down with inescapable temptations. God is faithful and will provide the way of escape. He’ll always be there to help you through it.
Taking it Home: Look to Jesus, who in every respect was tempted as we are, yet without sin. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).”
