Communicating The Unchanging Gospel Message
March 8, 2026 Speaker: Chris Royer Series: Lent - The Way of the Cross
Topic: Lent 2026 Passage: 1 Corinthians 9:15–23
The Rev. Chris Royer, Director of Anglican Frontier Missions, was our Guest Preacher this past Sunday. AFM sends missionaries who harness and utilize the spiritually formational power, practices, and rhythms of the sacraments, liturgy and the prayer book tradition to disciple believers from Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, animistic, and backgrounds.
The Rev. Chris Royer shared with us 3 ways we can contextualize the gospel. Contextualization in missions is the practice of communicating the unchanging gospel message in culturally relevant ways that make it understandable and compelling to a specific people group, in their context, without altering core biblical truth. It involves adapting methods (like music, clothing, language) and connecting with local beliefs, values, and worldviews to bridge cultural gaps between the Bible and the people, ensuring the message resonates deeply and isn't rejected due to unfamiliar or foreign cultural forms. This was Paul's approach in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. Here are 3 action points on how we can do this:
1. Invite into your homes
2. Reach out during transitions and difficult times
3. Do Contextualization
