Vision Sunday
January 11, 2026 Speaker: The Rev. Mike McDonald Series: Vision Sunday
Topic: Vision Sunday Passage: Matthew 3:13–17
When Jesus came to be baptized by John, initially John resisted him. John was aware of his own need for Jesus to wash him, rather than the other way around. He knew that Jesus was “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of world” (John 1:29). Jesus, who is sinless, didn’t need to be baptized for his sake but for ours. Likewise, Peter initially resisted Jesus washing his feet (John 13).
Fallen humanity recoils at the thought of Jesus having to save us. We don’t like asking for help. We can be embarrassed by the thought of Jesus taking our sin upon himself. We want to save ourselves, but we can’t. Jesus explained his baptism to be “fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (v. 15). He is righteous for us because, apart from him, we are unrighteous. When we repent of sin and surrender to him as our savior, he washes us and makes us alive to then follow in his ways.
Jesus took on a body to identify with us, save us, and make us part of his body.
Vision Sunday is a chance to see the state and importance of the body of Christ here at Grace Anglican Church. Updates were given regarding attendance and finances. Some of our unique values as Anglicans were articulated. The general ministry focus for 2026 will be on building core strengths within the church. This includes Christian education, small group ministries, pastoral care and mid-week worship opportunities. All of these things strengthen your life as disciples. Being an active member in your church, ie: the body of Christ, means engaging these ministries.
