The Ethiopian official hears the Gospel, says ‘yes’ to Jesus, is baptized, and receives new life, all because Deacon Philip continues to say ‘yes’ to the Holy Spirit one moment at a time. As a eunuch, he had been barred from full participation under the Covenant of the Law. Although Jesus does not restore what has been taken physically from the man, he is born again and made a full member of God’s people. Hopefully, we all have a desire to be a part of those same kind of moments in our day! What can we take away?
The Gospel demands our faith-full obedience. We can never earn God’s free gift of grace, and it can never be taken from us, but it comes with the expectation of daily saying “yes” to following after Jesus.
The Word of God is powerful. In it are the words of life. Practice finding Jesus on every page, and knowing it well enough to build bridges to the questions people are asking.
Jesus’ Church, on his mission, will not be stopped. Do not be afraid! Jesus is with you. He does not ask you to do great things for him. He invites our trust in him, and for us to walk with him.
Discussion Question: What things did the Holy Spirit arrange so that the Ethiopian could come to faith?
