The Hardship of Joseph: God Meant It For Good
Joseph’s story is an incredible account of God’s faithfulness in the midst of hardship. Though much of his story takes place in Egypt rather than Canaan, Joseph plays a significant role in God’s plan to shape Israel into a nation. Betrayed by his brothers and carried away to Egypt, Joseph’s suffering becomes the unlikely means through which God preserves and saves many lives. At the same time, God uses Joseph’s story to bring Abraham’s descendants to Egypt—a move God had foretold in Genesis 15 and one that would eventually lead to their slavery and, ultimately, the Exodus. The Exodus becomes one of the central pictures of God’s salvation throughout the Old Testament, pointing forward to Christ, who entered into suffering and death so that many might be saved. Join us Sundays beginning in September as we walk through the story of Joseph and discover how God works through hardship, suffering, and circumstances we may not understand for his good purposes.
