I Have Seen the Lord

"I Have Seen the Lord" (John 20:18). With these words, Mary Magdalene became the first eye witness to the resurrection of Jesus. From that first Easter Sunday through Ascension Day, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people. The Gospels contain many of these accounts. They also have relevant teachings that Jesus gave before he was crucified, purposefully preparing his followers for life after his resurrection and later ascension. Over the next six weeks, we will take an in-depth look at the accounts of those who saw the Lord as well as Jesus' teachings on how to follow him by faith and by sight. All of these preaching texts come from John's Gospel aside from one text in Luke's Gospel. These are the lessons appointed in the Sunday lectionary for Year A on page 724 of the 2019 Book of Common Prayer.
