Epiphany - The Gospel for All People
The season of Epiphany recognizes that Jesus came to save, not just the Jews, but everyone. The account of the Magi (eastern courtiers and stargazers) typifies God's plan to reveal his Savior Jesus to the Gentiles. It's a natural season to think about missions, our witness and the universal appeal of the Gospel. Using the lectionary readings as a jumping off point, we'll be studying the Gospel in First Corinthians for the coming weeks. Ancient Corinth was a very worldly city, full of Greco-Roman values and religion. Paul was frequently challenged and even frustrated by the unruliness of this predominantly Gentile church. He addressed many of the location-specific problems they had. However, his epistle to them clearly articulates the message of grace in ways that are applicable to all places and times. Make plans to be in church each week as we begin working through the early chapters.
