Epiphany: Christ For The World

The "Feast of Epiphany" is a single day, January 6th, with the season of Epiphany running until Ash Wednesday. The word epiphany literally means appearing or manifestation. It is typified by the manifestation of the Gospel to the Gentiles as seen in the Magi's visit to Bethlehem to see Jesus. These foreigners from the east travel far to witness God's salvation now incarnate. It is indicative of all Gentiles being drawn to the Lord. The season is a natural time to reflect on the Great Commission, our Lord's final commandment to the church, in which he expects his followers to make disciples of all nations. The Sunday Scriptures all have a mission thrust. It is a natural time to look outward with the Gospel as we gather inward in worship.
