Advent - Awaiting Our King

Advent 2021 - Happy New Year! From the Church's perspective, the Christian calendar begins afresh with the first Sunday of Advent. It's a natural place to begin the year because the coming of Christ is in focus, both his imminent second coming and his previous first coming at Christmas many years ago. Advent is a penitential season, inviting us to reassess our spirituality. Are we connected with the Lord and bearing fruit or are we being choked by the cares and concerns of the world? December is a busy month, but it can also be a holy time if we attend to the reason for the season, as the slogan says. What does the incarnation of Jesus mean to you? Would you be excited to learn that Christ was returning tomorrow? He could come at any time, so let's draw near to him now. This year's readings have us in selections from Luke's Gospel along with various texts from the prophets and epistles.
