Seder Supper

Exodus 12 records the instructions the Israelites were given through Moses for the annual Passover Feast.  For thousands of years now, the people of God have retold the story of their deliverance from slavery in Egypt.  The Hebrew word, Haggadah, means “the telling.”  This telling impresses upon hearers the greatness of God and his salvation.   As with all things in the Bible, the Passover event finds its fulfillment in Jesus the Messiah.  He offered himself as the perfect Passover Lamb, delivering God’s people from another form of slavery: slavery to sin and death.

By looking backwards to the Jewish roots of the Gospel, Christians find greater significance in the Passion of Jesus and an enhanced experience of the Easter celebration.

God intentionally aligned the timing of Jesus’ death to coincide with the Jewish Passover.  As the Passover lambs were being prepared outside of the Holy City, Jesus was preparing himself and his disciples for his imminent death on the cross.  Just like we will do in this Seder, Jesus passed the traditional foods around the table, recalling God’s mighty deeds of deliverance and the Israelites need for him.  It was in the midst of this remembrance that Jesus expanded their understanding of God’s redemption.  We remind ourselves each Sunday how Jesus, on the night before he was handed over to suffering and death, took bread and instituted what we now call the Lord’s Supper.

The word Seder means “Order of Service.”  By the first century a clear order had been established, which will be recalled during this time together.

Registration:
Adults (ages 13+): $15 each, Children (ages 4-12): $7 each, Children 3 and under: No Charge

The Seder supper is family-oriented by design.  So, please note there will not be childcare available for this service.  It is through sitting together and discussing these symbols that generation after generation learns the great story of God's salvation.  Parents will sit with their children and explain as we experience the Seder together.  Parents if your child requires a high chair, please bring one with you.  Grape juice will be used instead of the traditional wine for everyone at this service.

Registration is currently full.  Please call the office if you have any questions or to see if there are any openings at 904-541-1234.  Thank you!
