Epiphany: Christ Revealed
On the church calendar, we are now in the season of Epiphany, which lasts until Lent begins in March. The Feast of Epiphany, annually on January 6, is a celebration of the manifestation of the Christ to the gentiles as typified in the account of the Magi being led to visit and worship the newborn King. The mystery of the gospel is that the Christ came for all peoples, not just the Jews. “This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (Ephesians 3:5–6).
The lectionary readings have us in various passages throughout the gospels. One unifying theme is that these passages all reveal various truths about Jesus.
